Our Hive Site

About Maker Park

In 2013, a vacant lot on Front Street in Staten Island was reimagined into a public space named Maker Park. Created by the Founders of MakerSpace NYC, DB Lampman and Scott Van Campen, Maker Park was once filled with multiple abandoned vehicles, trash, and debris. With the help of many community partners, Maker Park is now the home of public events, art instillations, and Bee University NYC’s bee hives.

In collaboration with MakerSpace NYC, Bee University NYC hosts three beehives in at our flagship location in Maker Park, Staten Island since 2021. Each one of our hives contain more than 15,000 bees. With our three beehives, 50,000 bees call Maker Park home!

Expansion from Staten Island to beyond!

Currently, Bee University NYC is looking to expand to a second location in New York City. This expansion would allow for Bee U to host one cohort of our flagship program (the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship), hive workshops and a variety of other programming for communities outside of Staten Island that are more easily commutable from the other other boroughs. Currently our aim is to acquire a space in a private park or rooftop in Brooklyn or Queens to continue to grow the organization.

While we continue our search to find a viable location, we’d love to hear from you about potential locations in your neighborhood you’d like to see Bee University NYC in!
