Native Land Acknowledgment

Bee University NYC currently has a hive site at Maker Park, Staten Island which is located within the ancestral homeland of the Lenape people. We honor the significance of this land and wish to pay our respect to the Lenape communities, past and present. By acknowledging the ancestry of this land, we look to respect and advocate against the erasure of Indigenous people’s history and culture.

As an organization focused on urban beekeeping and environmental stewardship, we acknowledge that traditional beekeeping in its essence is a result of European settlers who brought over European Honeybees to America via ship in the 17th century. Prior to European Honeybees, there were wild bees, insects and other pollinators who ensured pollination on these lands.
